Become a Classroom Art Docent

Teach an art lesson? Me? Yes YOU! There’s no experience necessary to get involved in our parent led Art a Baloo program at Prairie View! Here’s how it works:

  1. We have experienced (and amazing!) Art Coordinators at each grade level who will work with the teachers to schedule and create monthly art lessons for each class. Check out our blog at for examples of different art lesson plans!
  2. The Art Coordinators will purchase and organize all of the supplies necessary to complete the monthly lessons.
  3. And here’s where you come in! As an Art Docent (aka “parent teacher”), you’ll be asked to assist the Art Coordinator in implementing the pre-planned lessons. Or, if you’d rather, you can teach the lesson yourself. Whatever your level of interest – assisting, teaching, once a month or only once a year – we’d love your extra set of hands to work with our Prairie View artists!

It’s really that easy. No creative experience is necessary to assist with art for one hour a month, and we’d love to have you join our Art a Baloo Crew! If you are interested in volunteering as an art docent, please fill out this Art a Baloo Volunteer Form 2015 and return it to your child’s teacher (or fill out the interest form, below, here on the website). Your Art Coordinator will be in touch with you, and we will begin lessons in October! Thank you for your interest in the art program at Prairie View!

Thank you to our 2015-16 Art a Baloo Crew! We appreciate all of your efforts with our Prairie View artists!
