AED Purchase Thank You

I wanted to extend a sincere THANK YOU to the Prairie View PTO for purchasing the AED (Automated External Defibrillator) for Prairie View. It was installed in the cafeteria, just outside the gym, before Christmas and we had a formal training with the “Emergency Response Team” and several other staff members who wanted to be trained. We will be having annual training as well as 2-3 AED drills every year. These drills are real life scenarios where a staff member will come upon the victim (“Annie” the training dummy) and I will be standing nearby timing and evaluating the response. These drills are taken very seriously and the response time in other schools has been around 5 minutes to when the AED delivers a “shock.” We have an AED trainer unit which looks and responds just like the real AED and delivers a pretend “shock” when the response member is directed to do so.

This has been a life saving device in many schools throughout the country and your school and community are lucky to have a supportive PTO and staff that recognizes this. Here is a link to a video that was recently on the Project Adam Facebook page. Of course we hope that the Prairie View community never experiences an AED event, but the nurses and administration are very thankful that we will be prepared if we ever do.
